On April 7, 2011 I created a painting while working outside of the subway station at Columbus Circle in Manhattan. I enjoyed the rhythms of people and light and had a delightful experience. The next day I began to create another painting just down the way at the corner of the Museum of Art and Design. After 45 minutes a security gaurd asked me to leave. He said it was for safety reasons. It was particularly ironic because the exhibit inside was the Global Africa exhibit that had a range of community based artwork. I understand that this is all part of a greater process and that someday even museums will honor the making of art near their buildings.
