Santa Cruz artist, Andrew Purchin, will display his recent oil paintings at Big Sky Cafe for two months starting November 12th in a show entitled, WIld Waters.  His powerful canvases are as much about the processes of painting as the subjects depicted. He paints directly from life, often in public places, in order to capture the interactions of observing, being observed, the physical act of painting and the experience of artistic expression. “I often paint on location so that I may engage in this dance directly with others and also so that I am witnessed as I create.  There is an immediacy and an honesty that happens when I risk being seen.”

Immediately following Andrew Purchin’s exhibit at Big Sky, he will travel to Washington D.C. for “A Thousand Artists: A Public Art-Making Installation" which is his conception. Purchin is organizing artists from all over the United States to make art in public at the 2013 Presidential Inauguration - no matter who is president.

“I am both pollinated and pollinator spreading through the waves of kinesthetic experience.  My brush lands in more than one place as the light seeps through me.” - Andrew Purchin
